Shiroishi Marushiro Umen is a healthy wheat flour noodle that keeps it's flavour without the use of oil. It is said that the noodles were first made during the Edo period, when a child who had a father with a stomach illness was taught how to make the noodles by a travelling monk. The noodles were named “Umen (warm noodles)” in honor of the “warm heart of compassion” of a child devoted to his/her parents.
Shiroishi Marushiro Umen is slightly thicker than regular somen, and is distinctively short, which allows for easy cooking and eating. It is a representative of [The Wonder 500], the local pride and joy of Japanese products.
